The sun crosses the equator at 14:46 on Friday 20 March, and with that celestial shrug the Northern Hemisphere tilts into astronomical spring. Day and night briefly call a truce - what we call the vernal equinox.
The meteorologists, eager boffins, already declared spring open on 1 March.
And just as you’re getting used to the light, the clocks lurch forward an hour on 29 March.
